Moon Island Qualification Practice Time and TestResidents of Boston and Brookline are required to pass a shooting qualification test prior to the completing the Massachusetts Firearms License Application process. The test is administered at the Moon Island Police range. At the completion of the test applicants are required to score a minimum of 210 out of a possible 300 point on a modified 25 yard bullseye target. At the range, you will be given a .38 caliber revolver with 30 rounds of ammunition. You will be asked to shoot 12 rounds at the scoring target at 7 yards, single handed in double action mode. Then, 18 rounds at 15 yards at the scoring target using your choice of single or double handed hold and either single or double action shooting techniques. Also note that you can be disqualified from the test by not handling the handgun safely. If you have participated in a Basic Pistol course and/or have experience safely handling and shooting handguns the test shouldn't be that much of a challenge. However, if you are inexperienced I can offer you training time that will help you to understand the challenge of the test. This training session will include:
Additionally, as part of this training, I can administer the Moon Island Qualification Test and provided you with documented proof when you pass the test if you are a Brookline resident. When administering the Qualification Test in an official capacity, I assume the role of Examiner and not a Instructor so, I will not offer advice or help you pass the qualification. The cost is $125.00 for a two (2) hour practice session. If you have taken the Basic Pistol Course (LTC-002) from me then the cost would be only $60.00 . If you are a Brookline resident and you want me to just administer the qualification test, the cost is $60.00. If you have taken the Basic Pistol Course (LTC-002) from me then the cost for the test would be only $15.00. I supply eye and hearing protection, .22 caliber and 4-inch barreled .38 caliber handguns and the ammunition.
